AmalaTerra " is a docufilm that tells the drama caused by Xylella, a disease that in the last decade has affected the olive trees of Salento and that is inexorably continuing his journey of destruction. After many years spent in Switzerland, Gabriele decided to return to his homeland, Salento. To welcome him, in the family farm there are the elderly grandparents and a bitter reality. Gabriel discovers that the green and lush olive trees to which his childhood memories are linked no longer exist. In front of him only endless expanses of dry branches and mutilated olive trees. Concerned about the dramatic situation in which his land is concerned, he decided to inquire about the causes and possible remedies to take to cure his olive trees. Millions of olive trees risk dying and with these also the tradition of a land that for centuries has considered the olive tree and its oil the most precious asset. "Amalaterra " lays bare the lives of the characters who take part: simple farmers, important agronomists and entrepreneurs who continue to struggle with the hope of stopping the disease. One thing is certain: we must return to love our own land, the land that man has mistreated for too long. In the field of cinema, "AmalaTerra" has been presented in the most prestigious international festivals, such as EFM of the Berlin Festival, Le Marché du film of Cannes, Hong Kong International Film Festival, Hot Docs of Toronto. The objectivity and accuracy with which this delicate subject has been treated, allowed the project to be married both by the University of Salento and by Confragricoltura who presented the project at their official headquarters in Palazzo della Valle in Corso Vittorio Emanuele II in Rome.
